Sweet captures a jellyfish in its natural habitat. She exposes the organism's many complexities, while also revealing its beauty. The focus of Anna Sweet’s current series of work is women, immersed in water, at the "decisive moment" of their expression (to use the words of Cartier-Bresson). Sweet manipulates the images she creates by printing them on aluminum then encasing them in semi-precious materials including crystal, metal pigments, minerals, and glass. Each piece is finished with a UV resin that protects and preserves the underlying photographic print. The encased materials and photographic image seemingly coalesce into a stunning, three-dimensional representation of the subjects. The subjects in this series become ethereal displays of female beauty. Anna Sweet is constantly looking for new ways to bring photographs to life, constantly experimenting to make her works lucid, vivid, and visually three-dimensional, as though they were windows into reality.
