Maurizio Alfier

Maurizio Alfier was born in Switzerland in 1962. His family moved to Italy when he was seven. After he finished with his education he went to work for Guerrino Lovato, where he first was exposed to the making of art. There Alfier learned the process of model making for clay objects. When Alfier met his future wife Manuela in 1988 she was then working with glass, particularly with slumping methods. He quickly became enamored of the process. He understood the potential of the medium and began experimenting with glass canes and shards. He eventually opened his own studio where, in addition to producing his own pieces, he went on to collaborate with many international artists such as Massimo Nordio and Mauro Eraldo. Alfier continues to work with Manuela. His research into the possibilities of slumping contemporary objects and lighting and the very particular results of this experimentation make him one of the foremost artists in Italy working in his field.
