Bring Us Together
This survey of Purvis Young, the late, self-taught painter who crafted images of urban degeneration in Miami's Overtown neighborhood, is opening this Friday at Las Olas gallery New River Fine Art. Young typically painted saints and oblong-faced angels, both symbols of oppression and poverty, but also of hope, on whatever surface he could find near his Overtown warehouse-studio. Several of his canvasses include coffee tables, cardboard, plywood and metal mesh grates. About 75 of Young's Expressionistic works will be on display.
